I must disagree with this, at least in part. In my personal experience, a sense of closure can be very useful in enabling to recognize the end of one chapter in our lives and move on to the next. We do not, however, need something profound or dramatic to achieve it nor should it be a power that one essentially transfers to another.
For example, when a certain woman abruptly left my life a few years ago, it felt like a gaping hole in my psyche for quite some time. I wanted to tell her several things, but she would never allow me a chance to say them to her.
Finally, I wrote a letter her a letter wherein I said everything that I felt a need to say. Even though she never responded, and even though I cannot be certain she read it, the fact that I had some kind of avenue to say the thing that I needed to say to her gave me that feeling of closure that I was longing for.
Since then, I moved on at every level, which is something that I don't think I could have done if I hadn't written that letter.
